The Excellent Adventures of Dan & Maude: Part VI
Eastward
After making it all the way to the west coast from Boston, Massachusetts, Dan & Maude begin to head back east. They board the Argonaut Southern Pacific railway, which travels from Los Angeles to New Orleans.
“Dear Dad
We are now headed east from Los Angeles and coming into Tucson, Arizona where I hope to mail this note.
The weather is very pleasant, though warm...
This is a very good train and rides much better than the one we used from Frisco to Los Angeles.
Hoping everything back home is going well.
Yours,
Dan”
Maude checks in with a letter dated June 3, 1939.
“Dear “D.H.”
Have just crossed that very high bridge over the Pecos river. I had no idea there were mountains in Texas. See lots of sheep grazing but no cattle only those we passed in a freight car.“

“Such a wonderful trip each part of the country is different.”
“Going into breakfast will try and write later
Perhaps the road may get smoother where the country begins to flatten out.
They have just had some rain here
Love, Maude”
